Description
The Thunder Bay Art Gallery’s mandate is the exhibition, collection, and preservation of Northern Ontario art and works by Indigenous artists. Our Permanent Collection aims to preserve the artistic expression and history of Northern Ontario. Today, we have more than 1600 works of art in our Permanent Collection. Over 30,000 people visit us each year. Every day, the Gallery provides school tours, hosts artistic events or shares our space with community groups. We’ve become the cultural hub committed to contemporary Indigenous, local and regional art that our founders envisioned. A new Waterfront Gallery is under development and will provide the community with better access to our Permanent Collection. Located on vacant land between the marina and the Alexander Henry Museum Ship, the new Waterfront Gallery will include more than twice the space of the current Gallery, a café, event hall, outdoor art displays, and an extension of the waterfront trail.
