Description
The Rennie Museum, a contemporary art gallery in Vancouver, showcases local and international artists’ work and opens to the public on Saturdays by appointment only. Founded by Bob Rennie, known as the city’s “Condo King” for his real estate ventures, it also houses one of Canada’s largest contemporary art collections. Pieces from Rennie’s collection frequently travel to prestigious institutions worldwide, including the Guggenheim and the Tate. The museum, housed in Chinatown’s oldest building, underwent a $10 million renovation over four years to become an architectural marvel. Exhibitions rotate from Rennie’s extensive collection of 350 artists and 2,000 works, focusing on topical issues like identity and social justice. Recent showcases included Kerry James Marshall, Ian Wallace, and Rodney Graham, addressing themes of African-American representation and cultural commentary. Among the exhibits are a permanent bronze sculpture by Thomas Houseago and a neon sign by Martin Creed proclaiming, “EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT.”
