Description
Founded in 1963, the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC) is a not-for-profit organization which celebrates the unique culture, history, and legacy of Japanese Canadians for the benefit of all Canadians. The JCCC is recognized worldwide as an important and vibrant community institution. The JCCC has many long- and short-term display spaces throughout the building, ranging from the permanent installation of the large scalewashi ningyo (traditional paper dolls) diorama of 16th century Osaka in the Heritage Lounge to the small display cases outside the main doors to the Moriyama Nikkei Heritage Centre. Typically, these cases are used to highlight the changing seasons and ongoing events at the JCCC. Occasionally, these spaces are used to mount larger historic and/or art exhibitions. Short term displays are located on both floors of the JCCC, in permanent cases, temporary plinths and on the walls, such as the Japantown Mural in the second floor hallway.
