Art Souterrain is a non-profit organization that provides wider access to contemporary art via an atypical contemporary art festival, Festival Art Souterrain, and a wide range of other programmes. The goal is to demystify the artistic process and artworks, to cultivate understanding and to create new bonds between artists, artworks and audiences. To this end, Art Souterrain presents artworks outside of traditional exhibition spaces. The organization seeks to surprise, maybe even confront people in the midst of their everyday lives, and to encourage a new kind of relationship and interaction with art, one that promotes questioning and emotional connection. Festival Art Souterrain, is an annual festival that redesigns Montreal’s underground pathways—primarily underground pathways that interconnect office towers, hotels, shopping centres, residential and commercial complexes, convention halls, universities and performing arts venues in the heart of Montreal. / Art Souterrain jouit d’une grande notoriété et est devenu une référence canadienne en matière d’intégration de toutes formes d’art dans les espaces publics et environnements atypiques à travers ses différentes initiatives. Art Souterrain s’appuie sur un modèle fort qui consiste à sortir l’art des lieux d’expositions traditionnels. En investissant des lieux non conventionnels, nous participons à promouvoir l’accessibilité à l’art chez des publics variés et curieux en plus de revitaliser leurs environnements. En constante évolution grâce à nos multiples projets, nous unissons communauté et urbanité à l’univers des arts et de la culture.
