Description
The Confederation Centre Art Gallery presents about 20 exhibitions each year, featuring Canadian visual artists. It comprises four main exhibition halls on two levels, along with smaller spaces at the entrance and in the concourse. Public sculptures are displayed on the Centre’s esplanades. Most exhibits are documented and accessible online. The Art Gallery aims to promote appreciation and understanding of Canadian visual arts, reflecting the country’s identity and development. Since its founding in 1964, the permanent collection has grown to over 17,000 objects, artworks, artifacts, and documents. The Robert Harris Archives (1849-1919) are a notable part of the collection, housing sketches for “The Fathers of Confederation,” a renowned Canadian historical painting. The Gallery serves as a public space for engaging with art and ideas, encouraging regular visits. Admission is by donation.
