Art Gallery of Swift Current

Art Galleries / Museums (Public)

Description

The Art Gallery of Swift Current is a professional public art gallery that advances artistic innovation, critical thinking, and cultural exchange through an engagement with contemporary art. AGSC initiates and supports education, research, and knowledge dissemination; engages the Swift Current community and the broader public of the Southwest region through its exhibitions and related programming; and develops, manages, and makes accessible its collection for research, teaching, and exhibition. AGSC has provided public access to visual art for southwest Saskatchewan since its opening on October 4, 1974. Core services always offered by the Gallery include a program of visual arts exhibitions and interpretation services, including guided tours, visiting artist talks, and related publications, media and materials. In 1995 an interest-level studio education program was introduced, expanded in 1996 and significantly expanded again in 2018 with the addition of the AGSC Learning Centre – Located inside the Dickson Community Centre. Since 1996 the AGSC has directed efforts toward creating and implementing extracurricular arts activities to engage the public. With these efforts, AGSC became a catalyst for arts and culture development for Swift Current and Southwest Saskatchewan.
