Founded in 1984, 3e impérial, centre d’essai en art actuel is an artist-run centre dedicated to exploring the potential of contemporary art in everyday spaces and non-art locations. Its activities—research, creation, production, dissemination, publishing, discussion forums—revolve around a program of artist and research residencies in infiltration-based art. They seek to nourish the relationship between artists and the public by highlighting the links between artistic practice, public space, and social engagement; they are based on collaboration and the gathering of knowledge and experience to support and implement public art projects that infuse and diffuse themselves within specific territorial and human conditions. / Fondé en 1984, le 3e impérial, centre d’essai en art actuel est un centre d’artistes autogéré voué à l’exploration des potentiels de l’art actuel dans les sphères du quotidien et les espaces non dédiés à l’art. Ses activités – recherche, création, production, diffusion, édition, forums de réflexion – s’articulent autour d’un programme résidences d’artistes et de chercheurs en art infiltrant. Elles visent à féconder les rapports artistes/publics en valorisant les liens entre la pratique artistique, l’espace public et l’engagement social; elles se fondent sur la collaboration et la rencontre de savoirs et d’expériences pour soutenir et mettre en œuvre des projets d’art public qui s’infusent et se diffusent dans des particularités territoriales et humaines.
